The Redring Selectronic Premier Plus electric shower has been specified by Erimus Housing as the shower of choice for its properties in the new £8m Gateway project that has been built in Middlesbrough. The facility provides specialist ‘step down’ rehabilitation and care services and support for people with traumatic brain and spinal injuries, stroke, long-term neurological conditions and complex care needs.
The Gateway Project, which opened in January 2014 is the first of its kind in the UK and includes a residential rehabilitation and care centre, a specialist community wellbeing hub and a range of transitional housing options provided by Erimus Housing, all on the same site. The aim of the scheme is to enable quicker hospital discharges and reduce long-term care costs by helping people live more independent lifestyles.
14 Selectronic Premier Plus showers have been installed in the bathrooms of the transitional housing element of the project, which provides move on accommodation to clients who are unable to return to their normal home due to its unsuitability or whilst they are awaiting comprehensive adaptation work to be completed. The Selectronic Premier shower has been carefully designed for the care sector and as a result is perfect for this type of project due to the safety and independence it can offer users.
Nigel Moses, Vulnerable Persons Manager at Erimus Housing, part of the Thirteen Group, said: “The transitional housing facility is a vital step in what is often a lengthy care plan for people. Often people will spend 12 to 16 weeks in transitional housing; therefore all elements of this project have had to be carefully considered to ensure they provide the high level of care required whilst also giving it a homely feel.
“The Redring Selectronic Premier Plus shower offers a range of useful and easy to operate features whilst being endorsed by various independent organisations such as the RNIB, BEAB Care and DDA which reinforces its safety credentials and gives absolute peace of mind.”
The Selectronic Premier Plus is fully thermostatic in its operation and can be pre-programmed to provide hot water at a constant and safe temperature, with various temperature lock mode options to eliminate any accidental temperature increases.
This model also incorporates a 1 metre riser rail and 2 metre hose which allows for the shower to be operated from lower down, ideal for users who shower whilst seated.
Simple to use, each unit is controlled via a large, one-touch easy-to-press button with tactile button coding and in addition, a conveniently located large LED display enables easy visibility and legibility. Designed in conjunction with the RNIB, the shower also features an audible feedback response to push-button commands, making it particularly suited to the blind or partially sighted.
